CMDB projects can be multi-year endeavors. Its thought provoking to consider defining the services first and in possibly a more business relevant way prior to building the network of CIs that would make up that service. I like to think of starting with the catalog first as taking a more strategic, top-down, business-relevant approach than a tactical hardware and software driven approach.
