Introduction:
There are two different views of the IT Service Catalog – a portfolio-oriented view for the business unit executive and a request-oriented view for the end user.  This white paper helps the reader understand how the portfolio view helps IT  communicate more effectively with business decision-makers and how the request-oriented view provides end users with a ‘single pane of glass’ for interacting with IT.

One of the most important things to remember when talking to anyone about "catalogs" or "services" is to remember to level set between the parties in the discussion. A common understanding of "who is the audience for the catalog?" and "what purpose should the catalog serve?" will help avoid a great deal of confusion.
