Guest blog at IT Business Edge on PaaS from yours truly:
Today, IaaS abstracts away the complexity of underlying infrastructure, but it still requires the old methods for installing, configuring and managing software.
So-called platform-as-a-service (PaaS) promises to abstract the complexity of the next layer of the stack — the enabling software like operating systems, databases and other middleware. This automates everything but the application tier so developers can focus on delivering working application code, which — let’s face it — is the only thing that business lines care about anyway.
